With D-Day 30 only a week away, I realized I should take a look at how not far along I’ve come by way of list completion. The beauty of this whole endeavor is there really is no way to fail–I get to do the things I’ve wanted to do and have a built-in excuse for them (thanks old age/mid-life crisis!) How’s that for a positive spin/rationalization?!
It turns out dropping in on your parents unannounced requires more planning than one might think. And by one, I mean myself, and by planning, I mean my totally assuming that my parents don’t have anything better to do than just be at home at all times. What’s that they say about assuming…?
Day one of 31 is (almost) in the books. And I’ve never craved bacon more in my life. It might have made more sense to wait until February to try this…
It takes a special kind of insanity to agree to forego an entire night of sleep to drive five-plus hours out to Yosemite and hike in the dark for eight miles, with almost 5,000 feet in elevation gain. And yet I managed to find five other people up for the challenge. Maybe I ought to reevaluate my friendships.
Confession: I’m a cheater. I’ve already seen two of the seven (the Colosseum and the Great Wall). So I just need to hit up one more before the dirrrty 30. But three just sounded way more impressive than one, and I live for the applause. Phew. Glad to get that off my chest.
